Set in the fictional Dakota City, the series stars Virgil Hawkins, an African American teenager who - during an event known as the Big Bang - is exposed to an experimental mutagen that gives him the power to control and manipulate electricity. With the help of schoolmate and friend Richie Foley (who will become Gear from the third season onwards) the young superhero will fight the metahuman criminals who threaten the safety of his city.
