Jane Foster's cover could return to the MCU, here's how

Thor: Love and Thunder by Taika Waititi is a colorful and fun film that also manages to be exciting: the word "love" in the title represents a theme that, unexpectedly, runs through the film in different forms. The love between two people as a couple, the love of a parent for the child, are highlighted in an engaging way, and the result makes Thor: Love and Thunder a slightly different chapter in the long saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). . The action and irony that distinguish the Marvel Studios works are in this case also accompanied by a deeper reflection, which aims to convey to the viewer the universal value of love. If the film, available on Disney + is successful, part of the credit also goes to Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, a character loved by the public, thanks to films like Thor of 2011 and Thor: The Dark World of 2013.

In the fourth chapter dedicated to the adventures of Thor, Jane Foster is more important than ever. Thanks to his connection with Mjolnir, the mythological hammer of Thor, Jane becomes a superheroine with enormous power, so much so that she is nicknamed the Mighty Thor. Jane is surprised but also excited about the situation, also because she was in a very unpleasant period, having fallen ill with cancer. Thanks to Mjolnir and her transformation, Jane believes she is now protected from the disease and she joins Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, to face the enemy Gorr. The role of Gorr has been entrusted to the talent of Christian Bale, winner of the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Fighter and protagonist of Christopher Nolan's film trilogy dedicated to Batman: Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight - The Return .

Unfortunately for the sweet Jane Foster not everything goes the right way: Jane is weakened and her illness has the upper hand. Mighty Thor passes away right in the arms of her beloved, the god of thunder. But thanks to the scene at the end of the credits, you can discover that "best life" must be understood in a literal sense: Jane's soul arrives in Valhalla, the paradise of Nordic mythology dedicated to those who died in battle. In this ethereal place, Mighty Thor is greeted by Heimdall, the guardian of the Bifrost who died during the events of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. If Jane is in Valhalla, how could she return to the earthly world?

The resurrection of Jane Foster in the comics

Mighty Thor in the Marvel Comics follows a very similar path to her counterpart in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Jane dies of cancer in the comic book saga that starts in Mighty Thor vol. 2 number 700 and ends in number 706. After her death, her soul arrives at the gates of Valhalla, just like it happens in the movie Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thor cannot possibly accept Jane's death and uses the power of the god Tempest, a cosmic entity residing in Mjolnir, to resurrect his beloved. Returned to life, Jane Foster enters chemotherapy to get rid of her cancer.

Subsequently, in the Marvel comic War of the Realms: Omega number 1, Jane becomes a Valkyrie thanks to the spirit of other Valkyries who have died and who like souls from beyond the grave call Jane to continue their mission.

It is unknown if the same fate awaits Jane in the MCU, and if she will be brought back to life and even made a Valkyrie in some way, perhaps joining the character played by Tessa Thompson. However, Natalie Portman's statements about her possible future in the MCU can be considered. In an interview with Los Angeles Times on this topic, the Oscar-winning actress said:

I am open to everything. She is such a great character and I think anything is possible.

So Jane's return to the MCU has a solid foundation for it to happen. Thor: Love and Thunder and Thor: Ragnarok (both available on Disney +) director Taika Waititi has revealed his ideas for making the fifth film in the Thor movie saga; you can find out everything he said in our article Thor 5: Taika Waititi says yes but on two conditions. Christian Bale: "Cut the most extreme scenes of Thor 4"

Christian Bale played Gorr in the film Thor: Love and Thunder, fourth installment of the Thor franchise. Many Marvel fans have praised his portrayal of him and count him among the most memorable villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). In a recent interview with reverse, the Oscar-winning actor has unveiled that some scenes that he had shot have been cut from the final assembly, because they are too strong and extreme.

Bale did not reveal precisely what happened in the deleted parts of the movie Thor: Love and Thunder. The famous performer said that in moments on the set he improvised, taking his character as a villain to such extreme points that Chris Hemsworth worried. Bale described the colleague's eloquent glances, which seemed to mean that those scenes would make the film off-limits. So the scenes were cut, but Bale didn't regret shooting them, and said he had a lot of fun acting them and that it was a joy to have the chance to push his character to the limits, even if they weren't there. many chances that the parts in question would remain in the final version of the film.

The moment in which Christian Bale was cast to play the role of Gorr. The actor worried because in the comics Gorr has a physique almost as massive and imposing as Thor, and he didn't think his physique was comparable to that of Chris Hemsworth, who plays Thor in the MCU movies. So Christian Bale asked the director, Taika Waititi, to adapt Gorr for the cinematic world by making him a little different: thin and almost slender, a character that could seem to have come from a world of shadows. This statement made by Bale in the interview agrees with a precedent from the actor himself, in which he said that he had examined Gorr's strange costume in the comics, and was concerned about proposing a cinematic image of Gorr in a thong. The team working on the movie Thor: Love and Thunder started from these considerations to develop a new look for the villain, which was less muscular and less undressed, but still very disturbing.

Thor: Love and Thunder is available on the Disney + streaming platform, along with a special from the Assembled series that shows behind the scenes of the film.
