Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is the new film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe among the Marvel releases of 2023. The new Ant-Man film - directed once again by Peyton Reed - is the third chapter dedicated to the Marvel hero after Ant-Man released in 2015 and Ant-Man and the Wasp released in 2018.

The films tell the story of Ant-Man (Marvel character played by Paul Rudd) who has the power to change his size thanks to a special technology. To his aid we find the Wasp, Henry "Hank" Pym, Janet van Dyne and Cassie Lang (the daughter of Scott Lang / Ant-Man).

While waiting for the release of the third chapter entitled Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, here is everything that is known about the new MCU film: plot, villain, setting, cast, characters, trailer and release date.

The plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Hope van Dyne/ Wasp along with Scott's daughter and Hope's parents Henry "Hank" Pym and Janet van Dyne accidentally find themselves trapped in the Quantum Realm.

The Quantum Realm is one of the most dangerous places in the Marvel movies. In the MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania the Quantum Realm is ruled by Kang and it will be up to Ant-Man and the Wasp to figure out the villain's true intentions.

Ant-Man and the Wasp within this realm will face their greatest threat that will likely put the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe at serious risk.

The villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

The villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is Kang who - knowing the Marvel comics - is a fearsome opponent. This villain is played by Jonathan Majors.

Kang's first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is dated 2021 - as the variant He who remains - in the Marvel TV series available on Disney+ Loki. Kang / The One Who Remains appears in the sixth episode of the first season of the Marvel series during the season finale but it is good to specify that they are not the same character.

Although the One Who Remains in the comics has no ties to Kang it was revealed during the sixth episode of Loki that in the MCU the two are variants of each other.

Kang is a highly anticipated character in the MCU and will likely be the main villain of the upcoming film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty among the Marvel releases of 2025.

As we wrote in a previous article Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty have a strong bond. The bond of the two upcoming MCU films is not only represented by the screenwriter in common between the two films (Jeff Loveness) but also by the villain played by Majors.

The setting of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantummania

The new MCU film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will kick off Phase 5. The new MCU film will lead the way in a new story arc that will be marked by the force of the villain Kang ready to do battle with Ant-Man and Wasp in the Quantum Realm.

Kang will be the central focus of all Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as explained by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige interviewed by Comicbook:

Kang is extraordinary and I told Majors there is no better shoulder than his to put the weight of Saga of the Multiverse. It's really amazing what he's able to do and what you'll see him do with all the various incarnations, or variations if you prefer, of Kang. It's truly remarkable.

The Saga of the Multiverse will therefore be built around Kang and the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania represents the first piece.
