However, Viserys' rise is not without controversy after he decides to name Princess Rhaenyra as heir. The eldest child he had by his first wife, Queen Aemma Arryn. This is one of the main events in the House of the Dragon storyline which ends up dividing the Kingdom into two factions: those who are in favor of this decision and those who are against it, namely the Blacks and the Greens.

Later Viserys remarries the young Alicent Hightower, daughter of his Hand Otto, with whom he has four children: Aegon II, Daemon, Helaena and Daeron. Viserys is played by Paddy Considine, an actor who has gained a lot of positive feedback in the fandom. Especially for his performance in the eighth episode of the first season of House of the Dragon.

Prince Daemon Targaryen

HBO
House of the Dragon - Close up of Daemon

Daemon is the younger brother of King Viserys I. Precisely because of their kinship, he has always believed that the throne belongs to him by right as a future heir. This becomes a source of conflict with Viserys, who at one point also ends up banishing Daemon from the Red Keep; the mansion where the Targaryen family resides.

Daemon is initially married to Lady Rhea Royce, but it is an arranged marriage that does not bear fruit. Subsequently Daemon remarries Laena Velaryon with whom he has twin daughters, Rhaena and Baela, while the couple loses a third child that Laena is carrying. Several years later Daemon marries a third time with his niece Rhaenyra with whom he has two other sons, Aegon III and Viserys II; while the third born, Visenya, did not survive the birth as she was born prematurely.

Daemon one of the greatest warriors of Westeros, rides the dragon Caraxes and wields the Dark Sister. A Valyrian steel sword that he inherited from his ancestor Visenya Targaryen. Daemon is played by actor Matt Smith and is one of the most loved characters by the public. So much so that House of the Dragon fans often come to his defense if he is put in a bad light during the story.
